Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated weather for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should exist assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, delight exist aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of whatever used item we sell. The following grading weather apply to the vinyl component of an anthology or single:

Sealed

Nigh Mint

Dusty Groove does not utilise the grades of Virtually Mint (or Mint, for that matter) because in our experience, we find that no records e'er qualify for such a high course. Even sealed records tend to accept 1 or two slight faults, plenty to ordinarily qualify them for a course of NM- or lower. Nosotros've often found that records which are clearly unplayed will have a slight amount of surface noise, peculiarly in quieter recordings.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may testify a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should yet be very shiny under a light, fifty-fifty with slight amount of grit on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise about perfect record slightly less and then. These marks cannot be also deep, and should merely be surface marks that won't bear upon play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May take some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but merely those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the calorie-free, and will but show upwards when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from crumbling of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface racket when played.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, just can have less luster than about mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but i or 2 marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which exercise not impact play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that volition play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface racket when played.

Very Proficient

  • Vinyl can have some clay, but goose egg major.
  • May not shine nether calorie-free, simply should notwithstanding be pretty clean, and not too dirty.

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, simply which you wouldn't buy for collecting.

  • In almost cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to notice record.

Fair
